This book, The Art of Rick Griffin, was originally published by Paper Tiger in 1980. Last Gasp then published it in 2002 with two separate printings. This one is from that 2nd printing by Last Gasp.
Rick Griffin was one of the most influential artists to emerge from the late 60s San Francisco art scene. He is often referred to as one of the "Big 5" 60s psychedelic poster artists. (The others are Alton Kelley, Stanley Mouse, Victor Moscoso and Wes Wilson.) His poster art and comix are descended from dada and surrealism, but take unique life in their representation of surf culture, psychedelic realities, and religious experience. This book covers the span of Griffin’s career and is an excellent retrospective of the work of this magnificent artist.
