The Pirates and the Mouse - Disney’s War Against the Counterculture
Copyright 2003 by Bob Levin and Fantagraphics Books. Published 2003 by Fantagraphics Books. Hardcover. $24.00 cover price.
The following is from Publishers Weekly: "In 1971, a group of underground cartoonists known as the Air Pirates put out a comic book parody of Disney cartoons in which Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Bucky Bug and others get high, have sex and swear a blue streak. Extremely protective of its characters’ reputations, Disney sued and turned what would have been a blip on the countercultural radar screen into a First Amendment cause celebre..." This book is about that lawsuit (which dragged on for many years). The Air Pirates included artists Dan O’Neill, Shary Flenniken, Bobby London, Gary Hallgren, and Ted Richards.
"The definitive history of this wonderful, mad (and, I believe, significant) episode in American popular culture." - Richard Milner, Editor, Natural History magazine
Book is approximately 276 pages. Hardcover with dust jacket. Includes photographs of the artists as well as some of their artwork.
New as published with very light shelf wear.
